Mary Kay Tshonas,  Principal   


Mary Kay Tshonas is starting her third year as the Principal of Hall Memorial School. Mary Kay earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Connecticut, her Master of Science Degree in Marine Environmental Science from Eastern Connecticut State University, and her Administrative certificate in Educational Leadership from Sacred Heart University. Prior to beginning as Principal of Hall School, Mary Kay was the Principal of Quinebaug Middle College, a interdistrict, public magnet school in Danielson for two years, after serving as Assistant Principal for two years. Mary Kay began her career as a teacher in Elmont, New York at the Clara H. Carlson Elementary school as a fourth grade teacher, and then worked in the Tolland Public Schools for twenty four years as a sixth grade science and language arts teacher. Mary Kay has received a number of awards including the University of Connecticut Science Teacher of the Year in 1994, The John Reed Leadership Award in 2018, and the ECE Principal of the Year in 2019.


Mary Kay lives in Ellington with her husband, stepson, and her two beloved dogs, Winnie and Olive. In her spare time, Mary Kay loves to cook for her family, spend time in her garden, take long naps, go to the beach, attend concerts, and is part of a thriving book club!
